Setting up your profile in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 should be straightforward, but Activision’s Rename Token policy has left some newcomers a bit confused. Here’s everything you need to know to successfully change your display name, as well as troubleshoot any errors that might come up.
1. Yes, you can change your display name in CoD Black Ops 6.
2. However, you won’t be able to do it as often as you’d like.
This guide explains two ways to update your profile name in Black Ops 6, along with how to resolve any common errors that may arise.
To change your name from within the game:
1. Press the Start button (or Menu on Xbox).
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Account & Network.
4. Open Activision Account under the Online tab.
5. Choose Change Display Name.
6. Press Confirm to save your new name.
Your current Activision ID will appear automatically when you log in, linked to the device you’re using. If you’re new and don’t have an Activision account, you’ll need to create one on the developer’s website. After saving your new name, restart Black Ops 6 to see the update take effect.
To update your Activision ID on Call of Duty’s website:
1. Head to the official Call of Duty website and log into your account.
2. Select Basic Info from account settings.
3. Click Edit next to your displayed Activision ID.
4. Enter the verification code sent to your email.
5. Click Edit again, enter your new name or tag, and re-enter your password.
6. Save your changes and click Submit.
This will update your in-game nickname across all linked Call of Duty games. To avoid the hassle of frequent changes, try to pick a name you’re happy with long-term, as renaming limits apply.
In Black Ops 6, Rename Tokens control how often you can change your display name. Unlike Call of Duty Mobile, extra tokens cannot be purchased. Each player can update their name only twice per year, meaning you’ll get one Rename Token every six months.
It’s also important to know that Rename Tokens are shared across both the in-game account and Activision’s website, so renaming your profile in one place counts toward your annual limit.
During the Black Ops 6 Beta, some players encountered the “Name Not Accepted” error, usually due to the game’s automated filter flagging names incorrectly. Treyarch has since worked on resolving this, but if you face this error and are sure your name is appropriate, reach out to support.
In most cases, this error occurs when the nickname contains restricted words. Trying a different name or a safer combination often resolves the issue.
Whether you’re updating your name for the first time or managing Rename Tokens, this guide should make the process easy. Enjoy customizing your Black Ops 6 experience!
