With Dragon Age: The Veilguard, BioWare is preparing to captivate fans with the latest installment in the acclaimed RPG series. This long-awaited release, debuting a full decade after Dragon Age: Inquisition, has sparked high anticipation among fans worldwide. Here’s a detailed guide answering everything you need to know about this 2024 gaming highlight.
Unlike some recent AAA games, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will launch with a single worldwide release date. Regardless of your region or edition, expect the game to release on October 31. Some regions may technically unlock on November 1 due to time zones, but all players can dive into the game simultaneously.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be accessible on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5, bypassing the previous generation consoles (PS4, Xbox One) and Nintendo Switch. The game is also Steam Deck verified, meaning it’s optimized for portable play on that device.
PC players can buy Dragon Age: The Veilguard on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or EA’s platform, the EA App, with prices consistent across stores. No linking to the EA App is required if purchasing through Epic or Steam.
Pre-loading varies by platform:
- Xbox Series X|S: Available October 14 at 9 a.m. PDT
- PlayStation 5: Available October 29 at 9 a.m. PDT
- PC: No pre-load; download begins at launch time
For those wanting a trial before committing, The Veilguard will be included in EA Play Pro. Subscribing for a month allows players to complete the game and decide on purchasing afterward. However, the game will not be available on Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus.
Unfortunately, The Veilguard won’t appear on the GOG platform. Although it’s free from the Denuvo DRM, which had many hopeful for a GOG release, it remains absent from that storefront.
Console players can enjoy smooth gameplay with two visual modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S: Quality Mode at 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS. BioWare has yet to confirm the resolution targets for each mode, but details will emerge soon.
BioWare has outlined the required specs for various quality presets, including target resolutions and frame rates. These requirements assume upscaling to reach ideal performance, so make sure your PC is prepared!
Dragon Age: The Veilguard will require a considerable 100 GB of storage. An SSD is recommended for an optimal experience, though playing on an HDD at minimal settings is possible.
The game supports several upscaling options and ray tracing features, including DLSS 3, FSR 2.2 (heavily optimized for The Veilguard), DLSS Frame Generation, and NVIDIA Reflex, as well as Intel’s XeSS upscaling technology. AMD Frame Generation isn’t officially supported, but enabling AFMF2 through drivers may boost performance.
The game offers HDR and 21:9 ultrawide support across gameplay and cutscenes. If using ultrawide displays, disable the Cinematic Aspect Ratio for immersive cutscenes.
Unlike its predecessor, The Veilguard is strictly single-player, moving away from the multiplayer experience seen in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Completing the main storyline and most side content will take approximately 65+ hours. While skipping side content may shorten this, doing so could impact the experience’s richness.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers three editions, each with unique items and perks. Here’s a breakdown:
- Standard Edition: Base game ($59.99 for PC, $69.99 for consoles)
- Deluxe Edition: Adds cosmetic armor and weapon sets for Rook and companions ($79.99 for PC, $89.99 for consoles)
- Rook’s Coffer (Collector’s Edition): Includes physical collectibles like a light-up Lyrium Dagger, Rook’s card deck, and a cloth map, priced at $149.99
Pre-ordering the Standard or Deluxe Edition grants access to exclusive Blood Dragon Armor sets for Warrior, Mage, and Rogue classes, providing stylish options for early adopters.
In keeping with recent EA single-player titles, The Veilguard does not feature microtransactions. All in-game content is available at purchase, though pre-order bonuses may be sold separately in the future.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard offers a blend of high-stakes narrative, visually immersive options, and over 65 hours of content to engage fans of the RPG series. BioWare’s focus on single-player depth and comprehensive customization makes this an awaited adventure in Thedas fans will not want to miss.
