Helldivers 2 Offers Free Armor and Weapon Set

Arrowhead Game Studios is celebrating Liberty Day in Helldivers 2 by giving away a free weapon and armor set. This annual event, observed on October 26 since the original Helldivers, returns with exclusive in-game rewards to honor the special day.

The journey for Helldivers 2 throughout 2024 has been a turbulent one. Initially, it launched to rave reviews from players and critics alike, but subsequent balance updates caused some fans to lose interest in the high-octane third-person shooter. Compounding this was a post-launch update that required PC players to connect their accounts to the PlayStation Network, leading to waves of review-bombing. However, with recent improvements, Arrowhead Game Studios has managed to restore much of the community's excitement, leaving players optimistic about Helldivers 2's future.

In honor of Liberty Day this year, Arrowhead is rewarding players with the R-2124, a bolt-action rifle that allows them to bring “managed democracy” to their enemies. Though it may not be the game’s most powerful weapon, it promises a fun, engaging experience. Additionally, players will receive the DP-00 Tactical Armor set, a classic Helldivers look that feels straight out of the game’s promotional art.

While it initially appeared that players had to log in on the day to receive the items, community manager Katherine Baskin confirmed on the game’s Discord that “everyone will get the items.” As part of the event, players can also complete a one-day Major Order mission, which can be achieved through battles against either bots or bugs.

Looking ahead, Helldivers 2 fans have even more to look forward to. The Truth Enforcers Warbond will soon be released, adding new tools to combat enemies like Terminids and Automatons. There’s also been news that an Xbox version of Helldivers 2 is still under consideration, contingent on an agreement between Sony and Microsoft. While this is far from certain, it’s encouraging for those hoping to see the game on additional platforms. Arrowhead Game Studios seems committed to its series of well-received updates, and with more content on the horizon, Helldivers 2 is primed to keep players engaged.
