In a recent update, Pokémon GO has confirmed that Mimikyu will not be making its long-anticipated debut during this year's Halloween event. Over the years, the Pokémon GO Pokédex has expanded to include creatures from nine generations, but the absence of certain fan favorites remains a significant point of contention.
One of the most notable exclusions is Mimikyu, a Pokémon renowned for its eerie backstory. Introduced in Generation 7, this Ghost/Fairy-type hides beneath a rag resembling Pikachu, leaving its true form shrouded in mystery. Legends surrounding Mimikyu suggest that glimpsing its actual appearance could lead to severe illness or even death. Despite these haunting origins, Mimikyu has garnered a devoted following among fans and Pokémon GO players, who have now received disappointing news regarding its availability.
At a recent press conference, Kathy Woo, the senior product manager, stated that there are currently no plans to include Mimikyu in the Halloween festivities, despite numerous requests from the community. While she could not provide extensive details about the Pokémon, she did express interest in seeing Mimikyu introduced at some point in the future. Woo also mentioned her optimism about Morpeko being the first of several Pokémon with in-battle transformations to join the game.
In August, Niantic announced the addition of Morpeko to Pokémon GO, which features a unique gameplay mechanic. This Generation 8 Pokémon can switch between Full Belly Mode, an Electric-type, and Hangry Mode, a Dark-type. Mimikyu's ability works similarly, with its Disguised Form allowing it to hide its true appearance. When hit by an attack, it transforms into its Busted Form, which displays its true look while harboring a grudge against the attacker.
While the community remains hopeful for Mimikyu’s introduction, the Halloween season still holds exciting opportunities for trainers. On October 19, Research Day allowed players to catch both Yamask and Galarian Yamask. The first part of Pokémon GO's Halloween event is set to take place from October 22 to 28, featuring Morpeko’s debut. Although details about the second part of the Halloween event have yet to be announced, it is expected to run from October 28 to November 3.
