Recent insights from reliable sources indicate that the newly introduced Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode in Grand Theft Auto Online has become a massive hit among players. The overwhelming participation of hundreds of thousands of players in this zombie survival mode comes as no surprise, given the community's longstanding desire to revisit North Yankton, the opening location of Grand Theft Auto V's narrative.
Aside from its initial sequence, the snowy locale of North Yankton only appears once more in GTA V during the "Bury the Hatchet" mission, where Michael follows Trevor to the Ludendorff Cemetery and encounters a kidnapping by Triad members following a gunfight. Unfortunately, there is no legitimate way to explore North Yankton, which has frustrated many fans eager to delve into this intriguing area. Although some players found glitches to access North Yankton in GTA Online, these methods were often unreliable.
Given this context, Rockstar's announcement of the Halloween-themed survival mode set in North Yankton generated immense excitement within the community. Launched on October 10, the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode saw over 400,000 players dive in during its first 24 hours, according to data from GTAO Stats. Just three days later, that number skyrocketed to over 1.3 million players, making Ludendorff Cemetery Survival one of the most popular modes in GTA Online history.
Renowned Rockstar insider Tez2 further highlighted the mode's popularity in a recent tweet, revealing that Ludendorff Cemetery Survival attracted 270% more players at launch compared to the previous mode, Assault on ATT-16. However, it’s essential to note that Assault on ATT-16 debuted during a challenging period, as Rockstar simultaneously removed a significant amount of content from GTA Online, which frustrated fans and diverted attention from the new mode.
Despite these previous hiccups, players are enjoying the thrill of battling endless waves of zombies in North Yankton. Interestingly, the Ludendorff Cemetery Survival mode has sparked nostalgia for fans of Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare expansion. In a treat for Rockstar enthusiasts, the beloved Red Dead Redemption and its Undead Nightmare expansion are finally set to launch on PC on Halloween, October 31. This addition promises to enhance the spooky experience for players who enjoy immersive gameplay.
