Fans of the Resident Evil series are buzzing with anticipation for an impending announcement of Resident Evil 9. Many had hoped that Capcom would reveal the title during the recent PlayStation State of Play event; however, that opportunity passed without any mention of the iconic survival-horror franchise.
Despite the lack of news, it seems that a Resident Evil 9 reveal is merely a matter of time. Since the release of the Resident Evil 2 remake in 2019, Capcom has consistently delivered something related to the franchise each year. This includes the Resident Evil 3 remake and the Resistance multiplayer game in 2020, Resident Evil Village in 2021, and Re:Verse in 2022. Last year, fans enjoyed the Resident Evil 4 remake, yet as 2024 approaches, it appears there won't be a new installment this year.
While it may be unrealistic to expect a new Resident Evil game to drop in 2024, the pattern of past releases suggests that an announcement could occur this year. Enthusiasts are particularly excited about a newly created Metacritic page for Resident Evil 9, which lists versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X but lacks further details.
It's important to note that the existence of this Metacritic page doesn’t confirm any insider knowledge regarding a forthcoming reveal. Nonetheless, fans remain hopeful that Resident Evil 9 will be officially unveiled at The Game Awards in December.
While 2024 may not see the arrival of a new Resident Evil game, it remains plausible that Resident Evil 9 could launch in 2025. However, fans shouldn't expect a release too soon. With Monster Hunter Wilds scheduled for release on February 28, 2025, any potential debut of Resident Evil 9 would likely happen later in the year.
In the meantime, Resident Evil 9 is not the only title rumored to be in the works at Capcom. Credible insiders have indicated that a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica is under development, alongside a potential remake of Resident Evil Zero. While it's too early to confirm the validity of these rumors, it seems that the next game on the horizon is indeed Resident Evil 9, rather than a remake.
