Xbox has unveiled that several games from the renowned Call of Duty series will soon be available through Xbox Cloud Gaming. This announcement includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the eagerly awaited next chapter in the franchise, set to launch on October 25 and accessible on Day One through Game Pass.
After acquiring Activision Blizzard in January 2022, a deal finalized in October 2023, Xbox gained control over several major intellectual properties, including World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Call of Duty. Initially, there were concerns that Xbox might choose not to feature future Call of Duty releases on Game Pass, as some analysts argued this could deter players from purchasing games, opting instead for a subscription model that could impact the franchise's substantial revenue.
However, in a surprising twist, Xbox confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be available on Game Pass upon its release, alongside its debut on other platforms.
In an exciting update for Game Pass subscribers, Xbox has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be playable via Xbox Cloud Gaming, a benefit available to all Game Pass Ultimate members. This feature will launch on October 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. PT, coinciding with the global release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Furthermore, other entries in the series, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Warzone, will also support Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is a service that enables Game Pass Ultimate users to stream over a hundred games on virtually any device with a reliable internet connection. Players can access this feature through PCs, mobile devices, select Samsung TVs, Meta Quest devices, Amazon Fire TV, and, of course, Xbox consoles. Although still in beta, Xbox Cloud Gaming has seen significant enhancements since its inception, adding various features to improve player experience.
The addition of multiple Call of Duty titles to the Xbox Cloud Gaming library, particularly the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, underscores Xbox's confidence in its cloud-based streaming service. This strategy aligns with the vision of Phil Spencer, who emphasizes that Xbox's success hinges not on the number of consoles sold, but on the engagement of players within the Xbox ecosystem across all devices. With Xbox Cloud Gaming, even basic devices can transform into full-fledged gaming platforms.
