In anticipation of the launch of New World: Aeternum, Amazon Games has released comprehensive patch notes for the Season of Opportunity update just one day prior to its debut. This update introduces a range of enhancements, including improvements to PVP targeting and matchmaking, a new 10-player raid, and a variety of bug fixes for both PVE and PVP content.
New World, which originally debuted as a PC-exclusive MMORPG in 2021, transports players to a reimagined version of the 17th-century Americas during the Age of Exploration. As they navigate the expansive landscapes of the island of Aeternum, they encounter Azoth, a mysterious substance coveted by various factions and monsters.
After two years, New World launched its first expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth, which elevated the level cap to 65 and introduced key MMO features such as mounts, flail weapons, and Artifact gear. The base game and its DLC have received mixed to mostly positive reviews on Steam as of now.
Three years after the initial release on PC, console gamers will soon have the chance to explore Aeternum as well. The patch notes detail several adjustments made in response to player feedback gathered during the open beta for New World: Aeternum. Notably, there are significant updates to the PVP targeting system, including a more aggressive approach to breaking line-of-sight.
To balance gameplay, a temporary damage reduction for the blunderbuss in PVP has been implemented, addressing its inherent accuracy. Other notable PVP enhancements in the Season of Opportunity update feature Cross-World Arenas, improved matchmaking, and the introduction of the Cursed Mists PVP Zone. Additionally, players can challenge themselves in a new 10-player raid titled The Hive of the Gorgons, which takes place after the defeat of Medusa in New Olympus. The update will also roll out a new seasonal reward track alongside fresh Artifact weapons and armor for players to collect.
To facilitate these changes, New World servers will go offline starting October 14 at 11:30 PM Eastern Time. European and Asia-Pacific Southeast servers will become available a few hours later at 3:00 AM Eastern, while all other servers across the Americas will launch at 9:00 AM Eastern.
Players who pre-ordered New World: Aeternum or those with Deluxe Edition bonuses will need to wait until 7:00 AM Eastern to access their rewards. Meanwhile, console players on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S can preload New World: Aeternum, and PC users can download the game update during the server downtime.
With the new raid and a host of PVP enhancements, October 15 promises to be an exciting day for players eager to dive into New World: Aeternum. It will be interesting to see how Amazon Games maintains this momentum moving forward.
