Aspyr is reviving yet another iconic Star Wars video game with the remaster of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, originally released in 2000. Renowned for its expertise in re-releasing Star Wars titles, Aspyr has consistently brought older games to modern platforms like PC and Nintendo Switch. Earlier this year, they launched the Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection, which aimed to update the original Star Wars: Battlefront games. Unfortunately, it encountered a rocky start, plagued by bugs and server issues.
In the past year, a number of classic Star Wars titles, particularly those from the divisive Prequel era, have been rejuvenated for contemporary systems. For instance, Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was remastered and launched in August, allowing players to don the armor of Mandalorian bounty hunter Jango Fett, complete with improved graphics and controls. Prior to that, Star Wars: The Clone Wars made its way to PlayStation consoles, immersing players in the epic conflict with Jedi heroes like Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Mace Windu.
Now, Aspyr is set to bring another fan-favorite from the Star Wars Prequel era to current-generation consoles on January 23, 2025. Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles will be remastered for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC (via Steam), Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. This updated version will feature enhanced graphics, modernized controls, and include all previously unlocked levels, playable characters, as well as versus and training modes from later re-releases. The remaster will be available for $19.99.
Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles was among the many licensed Star Wars games that debuted following the release of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The game blended platforming and beat-'em-up mechanics across ten levels inspired by the film. Players could choose from five Jedi Knights in the original PlayStation version, each boasting unique lightsaber styles and Force abilities. Other characters, such as Darth Maul, could be unlocked, and the later Dreamcast version introduced a multiplayer duel mode and training missions.
When it first launched in the spring of 2000, Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles received mostly positive reviews, though it faced criticism for its challenging difficulty and control scheme. Nevertheless, many Star Wars enthusiasts remain nostalgic for these classic Prequel games, and Aspyr is excited to offer a chance to revisit this piece of interactive Star Wars history with the remaster set for release early next year.
