Treyarch has exciting updates for fans eagerly anticipating the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, set to launch on October 25. This installment promises a captivating new single-player campaign set in the early 1990s during the Gulf War. For those who enjoy multiplayer gameplay, there will be 16 original 6v6 maps available at launch. However, it's the Zombies mode that has many players buzzing, particularly with the highly anticipated return of the classic round-based Zombies gameplay.
It's been four years since Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War featured the franchise's beloved round-based Zombies format. Subsequent releases, like 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard, attempted to innovate the experience but left many fans dissatisfied with its roguelike-inspired approach. Last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 introduced players to the first-ever open-world Zombies experience in MWZ, heavily influenced by Call of Duty: Warzone. With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Zombies enthusiasts are thrilled to return to the classic round-based format, and Treyarch has already showcased two of the launch maps: Terminus and Liberty Falls.
In a recent episode of the Call of Duty COD POD podcast, Treyarch revealed several exciting updates for Zombies fans. Notably, the beloved composer Kevin Sherwood will be crafting the soundtrack for Black Ops 6, including the Easter egg songs for both Zombies maps. Furthermore, Treyarch announced that Black Ops 6 will feature more in-game events than previous Zombies titles as the seasons progress. To top it off, players can expect a third round-based Zombies map to join Terminus and Liberty Falls before the end of 2024.
It will be intriguing to see how these in-game events will unfold in Black Ops 6’s round-based Zombies maps. Given that MWZ's open-world design seemed more suited to such events, it raises questions about how they will be integrated into the typically smaller, round-based maps. The third Zombies map is likely to debut during Black Ops 6's Season 1, expected to kick off in mid-November or early December, following the traditional Call of Duty release cycle.
This could pave the way for a new Zombies map to be introduced with each new season, although Treyarch may opt for an every-other-season release strategy. While specific details about Season 1 remain under wraps, fans can anticipate more information to emerge shortly after the game's launch.
With the revival of round-based Zombies gameplay, Kevin Sherwood's Easter egg songs, an abundance of in-game events, and a third map set to arrive before the year's end, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 promises to deliver a wealth of content for Zombies enthusiasts. As the launch date approaches, fans should stay tuned to Treyarch for any additional thrilling updates regarding the campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies modes in Black Ops 6.
