Tencent and Bandai Namco have joined forces to develop a mobile game adaptation of the popular anime game Blue Protocol. Tencent Games has obtained the official rights to develop and publish the mobile version of Blue Protocol.
Tencent aims to replicate the success of its other titles with Blue Protocol Mobile
With the acquisition of the gaming rights, Tencent is aiming to achieve the same level of success as some of their other popular titles such as Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile. There are high expectations for Blue Protocol Mobile, and Tencent is making it a priority to ensure its success in the market.
While an official release date has not been announced, it is anticipated that the game will be launched within a year. It is still unclear whether Blue Protocol Mobile will support cross-play or if it will be a standalone title. GamingonPhone has reached out to Tencent Games for comments and will update the article accordingly once an official response is received.
For those unfamiliar with Blue Protocol, it is a highly acclaimed multiplayer game developed by Bandai Namco. In its first week of operation, the game attracted 600,000 players, making it one of Bandai Namco's fastest-growing launches. The game is scheduled to be released in the West next year across multiple platforms, including PCs and consoles.
Tencent diversifies its operations to minimize risks and increase revenue
Recently, Tencent has been expanding its operations to mitigate risks and boost revenue. This collaboration with Bandai Namco is a strategic move to solidify Tencent's position in Japan's entertainment industry, which is notoriously difficult to penetrate due to high entry barriers.
China's gaming market, worth $40 billion, has faced challenges due to economic and regulatory issues, resulting in stagnant performance for many companies, including Tencent. To combat these challenges and potential future losses, Tencent is diversifying its portfolio and seeking partnerships such as this one with Bandai Namco to establish a stronger foothold in the Japanese market and potentially expand globally.
